Ginkgo Biloba
is the oldest tree species and has been around for about 200 million years.
It is native to Asia and it can live up to 3000 years. The word Ginkgo
is Japanese and Biloba refers to the two-lobed leaf. Chinese monks
first cultivated the Ginkgo Biloba tree and it spread to Japan in 800 A.D.
It was brought to Europe in the 18th century. It is fast becoming an
herb of choice and is the number one prescribed herb in Germany and
it was ranked fifth in popularity at U.S. health food stores.

Biloba Works
Many studies
have shown that Gingko Biloba aids brain function. It improves blood supply
to the brain. It also improves the ability of the cells of the brain to
use glucose. It increases the rate at which nerve cell impulses take place.
It has also been shown to normalize acetylcholine receptors in the brains
of animals that are old.

and Alzheimer's Disease
Many studies
have been done to find out if Ginkgo Biloba can be used as a medication
for Alzheimer's Disease. Mauer and his group recently conducted a study
in Germany on twenty patients for a period of three months. He found out
that Gingko Biloba is effective in the treatment of mild to moderate dementia
and there were no adverse effects.

Dr. George
Kudolo, associate professor in the department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences
at the University of Texas researched the effect of Ginkgo Biloba on patients
suffering from insulin resistance syndrome. This is a term that describes
a number of conditions linked to diabetes. In his research he found that
short term ingestion of Ginkgo Biloba led to the reduction of platelet
hypersensitivity. Some of the participants in his study reported an increase
in blood circulation and better memory.
